The story of Job is a classic example of the way God deals with the inner man and exposes all self. There are a few verses which has to be unraveled carefully for us to get the real picture. Job was spoken of by God as a blameless and upright man but what we do not see in the beginning (which God does not tell at first) is that God still had to work on the inner man and that is why Job contains 42 chapters! Job had to come to an end of himself. He did not sin or blame God but he protested vehemently to his so-called ‘friends’ that he did not do anything wrong to deserve such suffering. His friends did speak of God as the Righteous One so why did God finally say that they did not speak of Him rightly as Job did? The fact is that they had no idea of God’s ways. Regarding Job, God testified that he spoke rightly about God but he had a wrong picture of his own goodness which God has to expose and which is ultimately the whole point of the story. We need to have a right picture of God’s ways and a clear picture of where we stand at the same time.
