Why fight when defeated – 2

Let me take you one step further regarding our spiritual warfare. One of the things we hear often from preachers today is that the devil is a toothless lion and he is just trying to scare you. Well, first of all the context behind that verse in 1 Peter shows us that there is a real battle going on. Also, we understand from that portion that we need to equip ourself or else we can be brought low. Paul uses a whole lot of imagery regarding an armour in Ephesians 6 to explain to us that we need to stand fully equipped to resist the onslaught of the evil one. The important thing to understand is that the devil has not stopped his attacks. Jesus is on our side but we should never forget that Jesus won so that we can be equipped. The battle belongs to the Lord but it is vital that we stand and that too, as a soldier prepared for war. As we grow, we learn that God is fighting through us instead of fighting for us.
